The thought watching is definitely more challenging, and it can get easier with practice. Whether it is day 6 or 7 really doesn't matter because you're showing up for your meditation time!! :)

Well, I missed day 6, which was yesterday, Sunday. Sundays are typically a long workday for me. So, I just skipped it. However, I was determined to get back in the game today.
So, is this day 6 or 7? Whatever, the hardest part was turning off the TV. That done, I moved from the TV couch to CD player, popped in a CD and sat on my ready cushion. I used your 5 mt meditation CD and started with breathing, then 5 mt listening and then 5 minutes of thought watching, after which I continued about another 5 mts. on my own ... watching my thoughts.... Seemed a little easier tonight. My mind was a bit more quiet to begin with. Avima.

Day 5: I had a really nice 20 minute meditation today. I did use a CD ... but other than about a 10 mt. intro, I think the rest was silent. I felt really good during and after. I am looking forward to my meditations now and have been planning them into my day.

That settling down can take a bit sometimes - and good for you for sitting through it! :)

Hi Avima - the thought watching can seem to be the most challenging... and yes, it is possible to do so! It is like tapping into a sense of being pure awareness, rather than being consumed by our thoughts. :)

Hey Jorge! I'm psyched to see that you've kept up with this - and you're so right on about dropping expectations. Whether our practice goes "good" or "bad" what counts is that we are taking the time to do it. Good for you!! :)

Day 4. I had such a hard time "settling down" this time. My thoughts were all over the place. I finally was able to focus on my breathing. I probably sat for about 10 minutes, but felt like longer.
I already know, that often it takes at least 5-10 mintues for the ping pong game in my head to slow down,

Well, at 10 pm I realized I had not done my mediation yet, (although I had walked and gone to a yoga class earlier in the day). So, I sat and this time decided to try to "mindful watching" and start wtih the 5 minute guided meditation on the CD. I think this has always been the most challenging for me, and I have not tried it in a quite a while (avoidance). I was surprised how quickly the first five minutes went and then I turned off the CD (so it wouldn't go to the next track) and continued on my own. I don't use a bell or timer or anything... It amazes me that when we try to "watch our thoughts" it becomes liked a watched pot that doesn't boil... and before I know it my mind has wandered to someplace and it takes minutes or seconds, not sure which to be aware that I am thinking something. And then I say... "I am thinking about x" to myself. One of the thoughts I had was is it really possible to take yourself out of your thoughts and watch them? Doesn't that require your brain to do two things at once? Even though this form of meditation is such a challenge, I want to further explore this. As it turned out, I didn't continue for too long, I was probably sitting unguided for only about 5 minutes when I opened my eyes.
This was my meditation for Feb. 9, so I will probably do an entry later for today's meditation.
